Twitter

hootsuite-icon_biggerIf you’ve ever sat across from me over drinks or seen me tweeting on my iPhone, it’s because of Hootsuite. When questioned why I love this client, or even what’s better about it than others, I don’t have much of a response… do you justify when you’re in love?

But, if I must defend the honour of my favourite way to tweet, let me do it here:

Handling multiple accounts, with multi-columned tabbed views, I can easily see my lists, what I’ve tweeted, what pending tweets I have and of course the all important mentions and direct messages.

Within a moment I can tweet out from any number of accounts, upload pics, shrink URLs and schedule tweets for later.

Stats tracking, searching and easily following, re-tweeting, direct messaging or replying all with a hover and click.

(HootSuite’s own demo on YouTube)

And the iPhone app? That’s the best $0.00 I’ve spent! I get the same except on the go.

The only thing I wish I could do was see who is following me without having to go to twitter.com, but hey, I never said I was in love with perfection!

social_iconsIf you’re starting to feel overwhelmed with how many handles you follow on Twitter, ask yourself, are you following with purpose? Sure, it’s nice to follow everyone who follows you, it’s the courteous thing to do, and is certainly one strategy. But if you feel like you can’t keep up on your feed or your lists, perhaps it’s not worth following at all. There are real 140 character gems to be absorbed, however if they’re constantly being drowned out and pushed down by un-useful messages, maybe it’s time to purge.

So what is purposeful?

  • Wanted/necessary news: current events, industry specific info
  • Info that you genuinely find interesting/entertaining
  • Thought provoking insights
  • Info that your own followers might want to know

So what are you waiting for… re-assess, purge, re-organize and then let the learning, the connecting and the enlightenment begin.
